Barnetts Demense Dig Day

Thanks to volunteers from our club and mountainbikeNI who joined Belfast City council workers on a Saturday in November to help repair and resurface sections of the Barnetts Demesne jump park near Mary Peters Track in Belfast. This venue gets a lot of wear and tear due to the nature of the track being on a slope with high amount of traffic from mountainbike tyres and a of course a wet summer, So our expert James was on site to lend a hand.

Buy a BMX for Christmas

Just a re-post of this very popular post from last Christmas. just in time to help you get the right bike for Christmas.

We at Belfast City BMX club want to promote the sport of BMX racing within Northern Ireland, but understand that it’s new to most kids and parents alike, and therefore can be confusing how to get involved.

Getting the right bike is critical, as there are many different BMX bikes, for street/ park, dirt jumping, flatland and BMX racing.

Although similar in appearance race bikes generally have aluminium frames for lightness, thinner tyres & a single rear “V” type brake & also do not have stunt pegs or gyros. The geometry of the frames is also different as they are built for speed rather than doing tricks.

BMX bikes are not “a one size fits all” bike & it is important to choose the correct size and type of bike. All too often we see youngsters on bikes that are too big or small & this can cause poor bike control.

Ciclovia Belfast 2016

Belfast streets saw the second Ciclovia Belfast event on Sunday 30th October. The event closed the roads to traffic and its core aim is to promote community cohesion, mental and physical well-being as well as being a fun event for everyone – all ages and abilities.
This was a great day for our club to get together with all our riders and families to a sociable get together after a busy race season, some of riders as young as 3 were able to cycle the traffic free roads from Botanic Gardens to the City Hall for a coffee stop in Caffรจ Nero and back to Botanic.  The Bmx riders caught every-bodies attention with the speed and agility of our young riders, and also the impressive display of 80's old school Bmx bikes.

NPS Round 7&8 Ratoath 17&18th September

I know it's a little late, but here goes. The final two rounds of the Irish National Series took place at Ratoath on the 17/18 of September and what a weekend it was. First of all the weather, Saturday glorious, Sunday shocking! Second, we had the "white line moment", let's leave that in the past....we had some solid moves, some pedal slips but most of all a great weekend.
131 riders from all over Ireland competed making it a great weekend of racing.

BCBMX had 11 riders racing and all raced well. Reece, the youngest rider, was feeling sick and wanted to give it a miss, saying that, he didn't miss the van when he was sick !

NPS Round 4 Cork 16th July

Here we go again ! Report on the forth round of the national BMX series in Cork. BCBMX were well represented with eight members racing. We had Reece, Martin, Ozzy, Meg, Molly, Stuart, Gareth and Ian. The results were a mixed bag, some good and some unlucky ! Starting with the youngest, little Reece ran all day on his strider bike at the pump track and once again had a great time racing all the other future champs in the strider race. Martin Groundwater was on fire all day with two 2nds & a 3rd in motos. However, Martin slipped a pedal on the gate in the final and left himself too much to do, needless to say Martin was disappointed but will be back for the next race. The girls Molly and Meg had a smashing time literally.... !
